Erin and Jacob - engagement

When I’m planning with a couple about where to do their engagement session, we often try to do it in a location that is meaningful to them - the campus where they met, the spot they love to hang out, or anyplace else that might have a some sort of story to it.  Since Jacob proposed to Erin along the canal in Indianapolis, we thought it would be the perfect place to shoot their engagement session.

Below, Erin and Jacob did a great job of focusing on each other while I was coming really close to falling into the canal, trying to get the angle that I wanted for this shot!!

I love how vibrant the green of the grass is behind them.  It made such a cool natural backdrop!

Erin and Jacob, you were so great to work with, and I’m so excited for your wedding this fall!

Samantha and Andy - engagement

Samantha and Andy’s engagement pictures were taken late this Spring at Minnetrista Center and a local playground, Burris Backyard. They will be having an outdoor wedding in Yorktown, Indiana next month, with the ceremony taking place in a grassy area right next to the river. I’m sure it is going to be beautiful! I can’t wait!

See you again soon, Sam and Andy!

Lauren and Dave - Zanesville, Ohio

Lauren and Dave got married in Lauren’s hometown of Zanesville, Ohio.  They had a large wedding party made up of friends who traveled to share the day with them, and it was apparent that Lauren and Dave are dearly loved by many people!  (If you are around them for very long at all, it is not hard to understand why!  They are great!)  Here are a few of the highlights of the day.

Lauren gets ready with the help of her mom and her bridesmaids…

Meanwhile, Dave and the groomsmen strike some poses!

Just before the ceremony, the bridesmaids and female relatives gathered around Lauren to pray for her.

Lauren was just glowing all day long!  Here is a favorite close up as well as a photo of Lauren and her amazing 92 year old grandmother blowing kisses at the camera!

I like the perspective on this photo of Lauren and her friends from college.

Yum!

Friends and family lit sparklers as Lauren and Dave exited the reception.

Needless to say, it was a fabulous day of celebration and we enjoyed capturing every minute of it!  Thank you, Lauren and Dave, for letting us in on all of the fun, and blessings to you as you begin your lives together!!

Ashley and Jon - Indianapolis, IN

We loved having the chance to photograph Ashley and Jon’s recent wedding in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The night before the wedding there were severe storms all around Indy, but the wedding day itself was beautiful.  The day started off at Geist Community Church, where the ceremony was held, and their reception followed at The Kendall Inn.

Ashley’s dress had a beautiful black sash that tied around her waist and draped to the floor.

During the ceremony…

0225_0053lsmb.jpg0239_0058lsmb.jpg

Everyone blew bubbles as Ashley and Jon left the ceremony.  Here is a shot of their exit, with Jon’s dad blowing bubbles in the background!

Once we arrived at The Kendall Inn, we did some photos outdoors.  I think Ashley looks so beautiful in this close up!

I’m sure we’ve all seen the photos of the bride and groom with the bride’s veil blowing across their faces as they kiss.  In the shots below, however, we had no intention of doing a “veil shot”!  The guys thought it would be fun to do a photo of them holding Ashley, but as they were attempting to get into position, her veil had a mind of its own!  It got all wrapped around Jon and he had to have help getting free!

0362_0149lsm.jpg

I actually love these two candid shots of the true moments as they happened rather than the posed shots we did once they were in position!

Ashley and Jon share a laugh during the toasts at the reception.  I loved the sunlight falling on Ashley’s hair and shoulders!

Though there was some competition, Jill, one of the bridesmaids, caught the bouquet!

Ashley and Jon, thanks for sharing your day with us!  We wish you all the very best!

Chandra and Alex - engagement

Chandra and Alex are a great couple with a unique story!  They met in New Zealand and will be getting married this fall in Goshen, Indiana.  It was only after Chandra and I had talked on the phone, emailed back and forth multiple times, and everything was set for us to photograph her wedding that we found out that her sister and I know each other!  What a small world!

Chandra and Alex made the trip down to Muncie for their engagement session, which we did at Minnetrista Center.  It was an extremely hot afternoon, but they never complained!

Thanks for making the trip down to Muncie, Chandra and Alex!  You are a beautiful couple and I’m so excited about having the chance to work with you!!

Bridget and Steve - engagement

Bridget and Steve are getting married this weekend, but we were able to squeeze in an engagement session before the wedding! It was a great opportunity for me to get to know the two of them better (especially since we’d only communicated via phone and email before this).

We went out into rural Delaware County to find some scenic spots for the photo shoot. You can’t really tell from the pictures below, but this bridge was SCARY!! It was closed for repairs for the longest time and I was so excited when I saw that it had reopened. The only bad thing is that instead of the old wooden planks lining the bridge (which were awesome!), it now has only metal grids that seem spread unnecessarily far apart! You can look straight down into the river flowing below, and it is quite nerve-wracking to walk across the bridge now. Does anyone know if it this is a temporary thing? I sure hope so!

Here are a few favorites from their session…

1626lsm.jpg1664lsm.jpg

Since Bridget had on high heels which would have slipped down between the grids of the bridge, Steve offered to carry her! I snapped the above left photo as they headed across the bridge, and the above right as they were laughing together.

Here is Bridget looking lovely in front of a fabulous red brick wall!

Bridget and Steve, we’re looking forward to your wedding this weekend!

Shelby and Trace - engagement

I’m looking forward to Shelby and Trace’s wedding in January, but we decided to take advantage of the warm, Indiana summer weather for their engagement pictures.  We did their session on Ball State’s campus, where Shelby is currently in grad school.  Here are a few favorites from the shoot!

Liz and Jamie - Chicago, IL

We recently traveled to Chicago to photograph our first wedding in the windy city! Liz and Jamie were great!! They were married at the beautiful and historic Chicago Temple in downtown Chicago, and their reception took place at Shedd Aquarium. What great locations to get to shoot!!

0051_2194lsm.jpg

Above, the guys hang out before the ceremony. (Rajeev took that one, and I like that it really was completely candid.)

Inside the sanctuary…

0137_2299lsm.jpg

A trolley transported the wedding party between the ceremony and reception sites, and also took us to Millennium Park where we did most of the pictures. I love this shot of Liz and Jamie peeking out the side of the trolley just before heading to the park!

0230_0231lsm.jpg

Millennium Park was such an amazing site to get to use for photographs!! It was just such a neat contrast to have the beautiful, green park surrounded by all of the huge buildings of Chicago!

The picture below and on the right was taken under the Cloud Gate. If you look carefully, you can see the image of Jamie and Liz reflected multiple times in the background.

Liz looked radiant!!

0321_0375lsm.jpg

The next two shots were taken on the patio at Shedd Aquarium.

0344_2lsm.jpg

I had a little fun with the post processing on this one. I felt like the mood of this photo called for some sort of antique look. It reminds me of an old postcard.

0346_2lsm.jpg

Rajeev also took this shot below of the cake by candlelight with the aquarium in the background. Nice!

Liz and Jamie, thanks so much for giving us the opportunity to photograph your wedding! We enjoyed every minute of the day! We wish you all the best!!

Happy Anniversary, Landon and Sara!

Today I’d like to wish my little sister, Sara, and her husband, Landon, a very happy 1-year wedding anniversary! I love you both so much!

I was in the wedding, so I didn’t get to take as many pictures as I would have liked, but here are a couple that my husband, Rajeev, shot as Sara and Landon left the church.

dsc_9262lsm.jpgdsc_9263lsm.jpg

I love the way that you can see the great reaction of Sara and Landon’s friends in the background of the second picture! Nice job catching that, Rajeev! :) (If you didn’t know, Rajeev is often my second shooter for weddings. He does a great job and I couldn’t do what I do without him!!)

Sara and Landon, may this only be the start of many, many more happy years together.

Kendra and Bryan - Portland, IN

Kendra and Bryan are a great couple from Cincinnati, Ohio, who decided to get married in Kendra’s hometown of Portland, Indiana.

0155_0197lsm.jpg

Kendra looked beautiful and was a very easy-to-work-with bride!!

0073_0099lsm.jpg0394_2lsm.jpg

0315_0359lsm.jpg

0317_0361lsm.jpg

The guests showered Kendra and Bryan with rice as they left the ceremony. I really like the motion of these shots!! However, if you’ve ever been a bride or groom showered by guests with anything at all, you know that being pelted with all of those tiny, hard pieces of rice could have felt good!! At least these things look good in pictures!!

0496_2lsm.jpg0498_2lsm.jpg

It was an unusually cold day, but Kendra and Bryan braved the weather for an approximately 2-minute-long outdoor photo session! We got some good photos during that time, so I’m so glad they were up for it!!

Thanks, Kendra and Bryan, for giving us the opportunity to photography your wedding! We enjoyed working with the two of you and wish you all the best!!
